Harwell Parish Council Emergency Plan

The majority of emergencies are dealt with in a co-ordinated joint response by the emergency services, local authorities and the major utilities providers. But there are occasions when communities could help themselves:

  • Before the arrival of emergency services and immediately following a sudden impact event (such as fire or explosion) particularly where people have evacuated from properties
  • During widespread events such as flu pandemic, extensive flooding, storm damage or deep snow when outside assistance might be unavailable or delayed.
  • Following the loss of basic utilities for an extended period.

Harwell Parish Council has therefore prepared an Emergency Plan the first priority of which is to address the short-term welfare needs of individuals affected by the emergency.

The plan will be activated by the Chair of the Parish Council or, in his absence the vice-chair, the clerk or any other Parish Councillor. Their contact details can be found elsewhere on this website.

Could you help?

Would you be prepared to help in an Emergency? Do you have specialist skills or equipment which could be useful? Could you help with contacting vulnerable residents to pass on information and find out if they need assistance?

If so, then please contact the Parish Clerk so that your contact details can be included in the plan.

Might you need assistance in an Emergency?

The parish council will maintain a confidential list of residents who would like to be contacted in an emergency. This will only be used for the purposes of passing on important information and for ascertaining whether those on the list need assistance. If you would like to be included on the list then please give your name and contact details to the Parish Clerk.
