Web site aims

The Harwell Parish web site aims to be the preferred source of information about Harwell Village life for all residents who have access to the internet.

The purpose of this web site is:

  • To make formal, public domain, Parish Council documents available to residents of Harwell.
  • To provide information about the activities of the Parish Council, and to provide links to other sources of information about Local Government activities which affect the residents of Harwell.
  • To provide information about plans, proposals and other activities which may have an impact on the lives of the village residents, together with information about how the Parish Council and other groups and individuals have responded or may respond.
  • To provide information about services available in the village to its residents (Local Government, public, voluntary and commercial etc).
  • To provide information about activities, societies, shops and businesses located within the Village.
  • To provide selected information about facilities and services outside of the village which will be of interest and use to the residents of the village.
  • To provide news and information about the village and its surroundings for the benefit of residents, and of family and friends of residents who live away from Harwell.
  • To provide information about the village for the benefit of people and business who may be considering moving to the village.

Guidelines

  • Email addresses will not be published on the web site except at the specific request of the owner of that address.
  • There shall be no advertising on the web site except except for the inclusion of businesses and other organisations in the various listings pages.
  • Inclusion of businesses and other Village organisations in the various listing pages shall be limited to the names and objectives of the organisations plus primary contact information. Inclusion shall be at the discretion of the Parish Council.

Accessibility

  • Our aim is to make this site accessible and easy to use for everyone, no matter what browser they are using, and whether or not they have any disabilites.
  • The site's layout takes into account users who are blind or visually impaired.  It aims to be fully compatible with popular screen reading software. 
  • For those with difficulties using a mouse, the site can be navigated using only a keyboard (not yet implemented).
  • In technical language, all pages on this site should be valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional and use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). 
  • This website tries to conform to the Guidelines for UK government websites, especially section 2.4, and supports the Worldwide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, Level A, to ensure a Web accessibility standard has been achieved and is maintained.
  • But please note that the site is maintained on a voluntary basis, and this is the first time the webmaster has produced a site aiming to conform to all these standards, so the site may not yet conform to all the requirements for accessibility standards.

Other than the formal minutes and reports of the Council, any opinions expressed on the web site are not necessarily those of the Parish Council, or of the webmaster.
