I was surprised to read on the VWH Planning site the following comment from Harwell Parish Council with regard to the Englefield (wellshead area) infill housing proposal: “The parish council has no objection to this application, and supports this type of infill development as preferable to development at the edges of the village.” The Parish Council must recognise that the village is now surrounded by thousands of houses built on greenfield land – with more to come on Grove Road – so why on earth would the Parish Council support infilling the few remaining gardens in the middle of the village with more houses? Wellshead is a Conservation area – of sorts – but it seems that the Parish Council would be happy for all of us to turn our gardens into houses, something that most of us would find a strange concept, albeit a lucrative one. Is this really the Parish Council’s plan for Harwell?
